Govt to Scrap COVID-19 Levy in Next Budget – Ablakwa Confirms
In a major policy shift, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced that the government will scrap the COVID-19 levy in the next national budget. This move marks the final step in the government’s commitment to removing four major taxes introduced by the previous administration.
Final Tax to Be Scrapped
Speaking to a large gathering of Ghanaians in Benin, Ablakwa assured the audience that the COVID-19 levy would soon be abolished, completing the administration’s promise to phase out burdensome taxes.
“Only one more tax remains for the government to scrap in order to fulfill its promise of removing four taxes imposed by the previous administration,” he declared, prompting enthusiastic cheers from the audience.
Previous Tax Removals
The government has already scrapped the following taxes:
Betting Tax
E-Levy
Emissions Tax
With the removal of the COVID-19 levy, businesses and individuals can expect relief from additional financial burdens.
A Call for Trust in the Government
Ablakwa also provided updates on developments in Ghana, encouraging the diaspora community to maintain confidence in the Mahama administration. He reassured them that the government remains committed to fulfilling its economic promises and addressing the concerns of Ghanaians at home and abroad.
