
Nigerian Boxer Segun Olanrewaju Dies After Collapsing in Ghana Fight
The boxing world is in mourning after the tragic death of former West African light-heavyweight champion, Segun ‘Success’ Olanrewaju. The Nigerian veteran collapsed in the ring during a match in Ghana and was later pronounced dead.
Olanrewaju was competing against Ghanaian boxer Jon Mbanugu at Fight Night 15 of the Ghana Professional Boxing League at Bukom Boxing Arena when the shocking incident occurred.

The 40-year-old fighter was reportedly ahead on points in what had been an intense but competitive bout. However, midway through the fight, he suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed in the ring.
A viral video circulating on social media captured the heart-wrenching moment, leaving fans and the boxing fraternity devastated. Medical personnel rushed into the ring to administer first aid before transporting him to the hospital, but he sadly did not survive.

Olanrewaju was a highly respected figure in Nigerian boxing, having held both the Nigerian and West African light-heavyweight titles. Known for his powerful punches and resilient spirit, he built a reputation as a formidable opponent throughout his career.
His Ghanaian opponent, Jon Mbanugu, nicknamed “Power”, is an Accra-born rising star in the boxing scene. Mbanugu and the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) have yet to release an official statement on the tragedy.
