He Pointed the Gun at Me’: Eyewitness Breaks Silence on SDA SHS Shooting
A disturbing school shooting incident at the Seventh Day Adventist Senior High School (SDA SHS) in Kumasi has been detailed in an official report submitted by the Headmistress, Ms. Grace Kafui Ayi, to the Regional Manager of SDA Schools.
The report, dated April 5, 2025, outlines the chilling events that led to two students sustaining gunshot injuries during a break period on the school campus.
Background: Culprit Disregards School Rules
According to the report, the student involved in the shooting had taken an exeat (official leave) from school on March 18, 2025, citing medical reasons. He was due to return on March 20 but failed to report back as a boarding student. Instead, he began attending classes as a day student without notifying school authorities or seeking approval from the housemaster — a serious breach of protocol that went unnoticed.
The Incident: Gun Drawn During Break
The headmistress detailed that the shocking incident unfolded on April 4, 2025, at approximately 9:30 AM, during the school’s first break.
“The culprit took a gun from his school bag in the class and threatened to shoot a colleague,” Ms. Ayi wrote.
Eyewitness accounts from fellow students revealed that the gun was shown to a male classmate. Out of fear and panic, the classmate hit the gun away, causing it to discharge accidentally.
The bullet struck a female student in the face, leading to profuse bleeding and chaos within the classroom.
Immediate Police Response and Medical Aid
The school administration swiftly alerted the Suame District Police, who responded promptly and arrested the suspect on campus.
The injured student was rushed to the Kwadaso SDA Hospital for emergency care. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for specialized treatment.
School Authorities Commit to Further Action
The report concludes with the headmistress assuring that the school will provide an updated status report by Monday for further action and scrutiny.
