The Koforidua High Court has upheld the legitimacy of Frank Annoh-Dompreh’s election as Member of Parliament (MP) for the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Constituency, effectively ending a legal battle launched by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Presided over by Justice Addae, the court dismissed the election petition filed by NDC parliamentary candidate Fummey Selorm Philibert, and further imposed a cost of GH₵25,000 on the petitioner.

"We are satisfied with the ruling, which reflects the strength of our legal argument and the validity of the electoral outcome," said Gary Nimako Marfo, Director of Legal Affairs for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), who filed the application that led to the dismissal.

What the Ruling Means:

  • Annoh-Dompreh remains MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri.
  • The court rejected claims of electoral irregularities.
  • A GH₵25,000 cost was awarded against the NDC petitioner.
  • The legal challenge over the 2024 election has now been resolved.

NDC’s Challenge: Alleged Electoral Irregularities

The case stemmed from allegations by the NDC that the Electoral Commission (EC) made a procedurally flawed declaration in favour of the incumbent MP, using incorrect result sheets that violated electoral laws. The party had vowed to exhaust all legal avenues to overturn the result.

In February 2025, the court issued a substituted service order requiring Annoh-Dompreh, the EC, and the Clerk of Parliament to respond to the petition filed by the NDC.

But after reviewing arguments from both sides, the court ruled on Thursday, April 10, that the petition lacked merit and could not be sustained.

The Bigger Picture: Legal Endorsement Boosts NPP’s 2025 Agenda

With the court's decision now on record, the NPP strengthens its parliamentary standing heading into key legislative decisions this year. For Annoh-Dompreh, the ruling not only validates his re-election but also shields the party from further distractions as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.

Meanwhile, political watchers say the decision is a major blow to the NDC’s legal strategy, which has seen mixed results in post-election litigation across several constituencies.

Reactions from the Ground

“Justice has prevailed. We now focus on delivering the development we promised our constituents,” said a jubilant supporter at the court premises.
“We respect the court's ruling, but we remain committed to electoral transparency,” a local NDC organizer commented.
