Ghanaian actress Mavis Yeboah, known to fans as Maame Gyanwaa from the popular show "Cow and Chicken," has opened up about her ongoing struggle with a severe eye condition that threatens her ability to see.

In a candid interview with blogger ZionFelix, Maame Gyanwaa recounted her difficult journey, beginning with initial misdiagnoses ranging from malaria to glaucoma. Eventually, doctors pinpointed a blood clot behind her eye, a condition deemed incurable.

"I've already spent over 11,000 cedis on treatments, but it's not enough. I've lost all sight in my left eye, and my vision in the right eye is blurry. I experience frequent blackouts in that eye," she shared with emotion.

Seeking more affordable care, Maame Gyanwaa makes monthly trips from Accra to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, each costing up to GH₵400.

Despite offers for treatment abroad, surgery remains off the table following medical evaluations.

Tragically, Maame Gyanwaa also faced the devastating loss of her son to cancer in 2021, which drained her finances despite support from the government.

Currently supporting herself through bead-making, which relies on her vision, Maame Gyanwaa expressed desperation over her financial struggles and the lack of acting opportunities.

"I haven't been approached for any acting roles. I've been managing on my own. I appeal to people to assist me in any way they can. I'm losing hope fast," she confessed tearfully.

With medical expenses rising amid economic hardships, Maame Gyanwaa passionately pleaded for support from her fans and colleagues.

She shared the depth of her anguish, admitting thoughts of suicide should she lose her remaining eye.

Maame Gyanwaa's journey sheds light on the challenges faced by individuals battling severe health conditions in Ghana's entertainment industry, highlighting resilience and the urgent need for community assistance.
