Ghana’s Chief Justice has strongly advised political parties and stakeholders to strictly follow legal procedures when filing court cases, particularly in election disputes, to avoid case dismissals.
At the launch of a new handbook for election adjudication on October 31, 2024, she emphasized that procedural accuracy is essential for a fair judicial process.
The Chief Justice pointed out that some political parties, especially the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have criticized the Supreme Court for its predictable rulings. However, she noted that the real issue often stems from procedural errors or a lack of sufficient evidence.
She urged future litigants to recognize that following proper court procedures and selecting the correct court for their cases is vital for achieving positive outcomes.
In her address, the Chief Justice mentioned that the new manual (comprising three volumes) offers valuable insights into election law and serves as a guide for litigants and the media.
She encouraged both parties and reporters to utilize this resource, which reflects current principles of election law, to ensure accurate reporting and effective legal strategies.
She explained that the manual is a comprehensive guide designed to simplify the handling of election disputes and clarify best practices in legal procedures.
"Failure to meet the required legal threshold," she warned, "can be costly, as even a strong case may fail if procedural standards are not followed."
