Gomoa Central MP Kwame A-plus Delivers First Floor Speech Amidst Mixed Reactions
Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as Kwame A-Plus, made headlines this week after delivering his maiden floor speech as the independent Member of Parliament for the Gomoa Central Constituency.
Elected during the 2024 parliamentary elections, Kwame A-Plus ousted the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to secure the seat, representing a significant shift in the constituency's political landscape.
Despite his experience as a musician and outspoken activist, Kwame A-Plus’s debut in Parliament was not without its challenges. The independent MP, who has partnered with the Majority Caucus to advance his legislative agenda, appeared to face a minor hiccup with misplaced documents during his address.

Kwame A-Plus began his speech by commending the appointment of Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs.
However, shortly after, he noted a mix-up regarding his assigned commentary, revealing that he had been prepared to address a different nominee. Seeking clarification, he respectfully asked the Speaker if the issue could be rectified, sparking immediate reactions from the Minority Caucus.
In his remarks, Kwame A-Plus stated: "Mr. Speaker, I was informed that I needed to comment on a different appointment. I would like to know if it is possible to have this corrected.”
Despite the opposition's visible disapproval, the MP held his ground, emphasizing that he was working with the information provided by his caucus's Whip.
His assertiveness during the proceedings drew mixed reactions both in Parliament and online. While some viewers commended his resilience and determination, others suggested that he take more time to familiarize himself with the intricacies of parliamentary procedures.
As Kwame A-Plus navigates his new role, all eyes remain on the independent MP to see how he leverages his platform to represent Gomoa Central effectively.
