As the Muslim community marks the end of Ramadan with Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, former President John Dramani Mahama is urging Ghanaians to show increased compassion towards the less privileged in society. In a heartfelt address at the Eid-ul-Fitr event organized by the National Chief Imam, held at Accra’s Black Star Square on March 31, Mahama emphasized the significance of solidarity and empathy for those facing hardships.

The Spirit of Eid: Empathy and Generosity

Eid-ul-Fitr is traditionally a time of joy, gratitude, and community celebration. However, Mahama reminded the public that it is also an occasion for giving and compassion. He encouraged both Muslims and non-Muslims alike to remember the poor, the sick, and those enduring personal challenges.

As we mark the end of Ramadan, let us not forget the vulnerable in our communities. This is a time for reflection, kindness, and support. We must look out for those who are struggling and extend a helping hand,” Mahama stated, calling for collective responsibility towards the less fortunate.

Leadership and Community Responsibility

Mahama further urged religious and community leaders to model empathy and social responsibility. He stressed that it is crucial for leaders to set an example, teaching their congregations the importance of uplifting one another, not only during celebrations but throughout the year. The former President called on Ghanaians to embrace the true essence of Eid-ul-Fitr, which is about solidarity and ensuring no one is left behind.

“Let us use this occasion to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and ensure that no one is left behind,” he concluded, rallying the nation to act with compassion and generosity.
