The National Sports Authority (NSA) has come under fire from Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif for renting out the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for a religious event only a few weeks prior to Ghana's pivotal 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Angola.

Ussif called the NSA's activities a "failure," emphasising their carelessness in maintaining the stadium's condition and guaranteeing that it would be ready for international games. The pitch sustained major damage during the five-day "Kumuyi" church program in July, raising serious questions regarding its readiness for hosting international championships.

Following the Black Stars' 1-0 loss to Angola at the stadium, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) revoked the stadium's international match license, possibly requiring future home games to be played overseas.

Ussif said, "Of course, [the NSA failed in its duty] by its singular decision to rent the Kumasi Stadium for that program just before the Angola match," in front of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports.

Since then, the Sports Ministry has released a statement ordering the NSA to swiftly resolve the Baba Yara Stadium pitch difficulties. This tragedy emphasises how urgently national athletic venues need to be managed more responsibly and proactively in order to ensure that they adhere to international standards.

The NSA is under growing pressure to show that they are committed to assisting Ghana's football program and maintaining the integrity of the nation's sporting facilities, especially with the Black Stars' next home games being in doubt.
