West Ham winger Mohammed Kudus has been slapped with a five-game suspension and a £60,000 fine after a heated exchange during a recent Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur. The Football Association (FA) extended Kudus’ initial three-match ban following a VAR-reviewed red card for violent conduct.

During West Ham’s 4-1 defeat to Spurs, Kudus fouled Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven. Tempers flared when the Ghanaian international appeared to shove several players, including palming Pape Sarr in the face and making contact with Richarlison.

Initially shown a yellow card, the situation escalated as VAR upgraded the offense to a red. The FA’s extended suspension decision now means Kudus will miss upcoming games against Everton, Arsenal, Newcastle, Leicester, and Wolves.

In a written statement to the FA, Kudus expressed deep regret, describing the situation as “embarrassing” and “out of character.” He acknowledged that he lost control but defended that his actions were not intended to cause harm.

Kudus attributed his frustration to a challenging match preparation, with recent international travel and social media negativity impacting his mental readiness.

West Ham, though disappointed with the outcome, accepted the FA's ruling. Additionally, the club has been fined £30,000 for failing to prevent the altercation from escalating among its players.

Without Kudus, West Ham faces tough challenges in upcoming matches as they aim to regain form under Julen Lopetegui. Currently in 14th place, the team will need to adapt without one of their key midfielders.
