Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams has faced a challenging transition to international football since committing to represent Ghana in 2022.
Despite being a standout performer in La Liga, where he has spent a decade as a key figure for Athletic Bilbao, his time with the Black Stars has been less remarkable, with just one goal in 17 appearances.
Former teammate and Athletic Bilbao legend Raul Garcia attributes Williams' struggles with Ghana to differences in his upbringing and adaptation challenges.
Born and raised in the Basque region of Spain, Williams switched allegiance to Ghana to honor his heritage. However, the cultural shift and adjustment to the team dynamics have impacted his performance on the international stage.

Speaking to the LALIGA press, Garcia emphasized international duties' logistical and psychological challenges.
"It is true that he has not reached the desired levels when he plays for Ghana," he remarked. "The long hours of travel, new teammates, and unfamiliar settings can hinder performance. But I know Inaki is determined to adapt and succeed."
Despite his difficulties with Ghana, Williams has excelled at Athletic Bilbao, where he played a crucial role in the club's historic Copa del Rey victory and two Spanish Super Cup titles.
This season, he has contributed four goals and five assists in 18 La Liga matches, helping the team secure a strong fourth-place position.
Garcia expressed confidence in Williams' overcoming these challenges and finding form with the Black Stars.
"He is a talented player, and with time, I am certain he will achieve great things for Ghana," he stated.
Williams' commitment to both club and country remains unwavering. As he continues to adapt, fans and teammates alike are hopeful that his efforts will soon translate into success on the international stage.
