Akufo-Addo Grants Presidential Charters to 14 Universities

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has conferred Presidential Charters on 14 university colleges in a historic move to elevate the nation's tertiary education landscape.
The milestone event, held on December 20, 2024, in Accra, underscores Ghana's commitment to fostering academic excellence, innovation, and nation-building.
President Akufo-Addo, sharing his thoughts on Facebook, described the occasion as a "transformative milestone in the history of our nation's tertiary education."
He praised the recognized institutions' dedication to meeting the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission’s (GTEC) stringent criteria for quality education, governance, and community engagement.
“The grant of a Presidential Charter is the highest recognition a tertiary institution in Ghana can achieve.
This rigorous process ensures only institutions meeting excellence in governance, quality assurance, academic delivery, research, and community engagement are awarded,” the President remarked.
Newly Chartered Institutions
The following institutions have received the autonomy to award degrees, diplomas, and certificates independently:
- National Defence College
- KAAF University College
- Heritage Christian University College
- Ensign Global College
- University College of Gold Coast
- Knutsford University College
- Thrivus Institute for Biomedical Sciences and Technology
- Nobel International Business School
- Entrance University College of Health Sciences
- Accra Metropolitan University College
- African University College of Communications
- Garden City University College
- Family Health University College
- Academic City University College

The Presidential Charter empowers these institutions to operate independently, freeing them from affiliations with established universities.
