“My Daughter Can’t Eat or Sleep”—Ghana Mother Pleads for Help After Bullet Injury
A heartbreaking cry for help has emerged from the Ashanti Region, where 16-year-old Suzi Adwoa Penamang, a student of Seventh Day Adventist Senior High School (SDA SHS) in Bantama, is battling to keep her sight after being struck in the eye by a stray bullet.
The devastating incident occurred on Friday, April 4, 2025, during a violent confrontation on campus involving her classmate Bernard Amoabeng and a group of students. Reports indicate that the clash erupted over whether Bernard’s firearm was real. In a shocking act to prove its authenticity, the weapon was discharged—the bullet struck Suzi’s eye, changing her life in an instant.
Medical Emergency: “She Could Lose Her Eye Without Help”
Suzi was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for emergency treatment. Though she has since been discharged, her vision remains in grave danger. The bullet damage is severe, and she now requires urgent surgery and continued specialized care to prevent permanent blindness.
“My daughter cannot sleep or eat. I don’t have any help from anywhere,” cried Afia Comfort, Suzi’s distraught mother. “All I need from Ghanaians is to help me get back the eye of my daughter. Please help me.”
The family’s financial constraints have made it nearly impossible to fund the next phase of Suzi’s treatment, prompting a public appeal for donations and medical support.
National Outcry: Guns in Schools Spark Fury
The shooting has triggered public outrage, renewing demands for tighter school security, zero tolerance for student violence, and urgent reforms to prevent weapons from entering classrooms.
Many are asking how a student accessed a firearm and what preventive measures are being put in place to protect students like Suzi. Education and child protection advocates say this is a wake-up call for policy intervention, parental accountability, and school-based discipline structures.
How You Can Help Save Suzi’s Sight
Suzi’s family is appealing to:
- Government officials, including MPs and President John Mahama
- NGOs and healthcare institutions
- The general public and benevolent Ghanaians worldwide
Your donation, no matter how small, could help fund urgent surgery, restore Suzi’s vision, and give hope to a family plunged into despair.
