Three well-known female candidates have submitted their nomination papers for the 2024 Ghanaian presidential election, indicating their intention to upend the status quo in politics. This is a decidedly audacious and vocal turn in the contest.
The feisty leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor, is getting back into the fight with a mission to advance real change and advocate for the issues faced by common Ghanaians. The People's National Party (PNP) flagbearer, Janet Nabla, filed her nomination paperwork as well. She applauded the Electoral Commission (EC) for cutting expenses for female candidates, but she also argued in favor of a more computerized filing process to lessen the workload for candidates.
Nana Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankumah, a representative of the Convention People's Party (CPP), has joined them, stating that the party is returning with the goal of ending poverty and providing Ghanaians with a new lease on life. These three ladies aren't hesitant to question the status quo and present different ideas for Ghana's future; they are well-known for their audacious and frequently divisive political positions. Their inclusion on the presidential ballot demonstrates their dedication to politics and confidence in their leadership skills.
Their choice to run for office makes a strong signal in a political sphere where male voices frequently predominate. In addition to running for office, they hope to encourage the next generation of women to enter the political and governmental spheres as leaders.
With their distinct viewpoints and unyielding resolve, these women hope to leave their imprint on Ghanaian politics and perhaps even influence the nation's future. The next elections are sure to be exciting and surprising. For those looking for a new outlook and an opportunity for change, their inclusion on the ballot serves as a ray of hope.
