Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister for Education, has responded to criticisms regarding the current state of education in Ghana under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government. Speaking at the 12th congregation of Jackson University College (JUC) in Kumasi, he stated that claims of educational decline are unfounded.

“It is wrong for anyone to assert that the NPP government has destroyed education in Ghana,” Dr. Adutwum emphasized. He highlighted the positive transformations in the education sector over the past seven years, which he believes warrant recognition rather than criticism.

During the ceremony, a total of 1,276 students graduated with degrees in various fields, including Early Grade Education, French Education, and General Studies. Since its establishment 15 years ago, JUC has trained a total of 19,435 teachers through distance learning, showcasing its commitment to enhancing education in Ghana.

Dr. Adutwum urged Ghanaians to adopt a more constructive political discourse that acknowledges achievements across party lines. He expressed disappointment over political actors who overlook the successes of their rivals due to partisanship, stressing the need for unity in improving the nation’s educational outcomes.

He also noted that, for the first time in Ghana's history, high schools will offer courses in innovative fields such as aviation, aerospace, robotics, and engineering. "This reflects the significant transformation underway in our education sector, and we must work together as a nation to enhance learning outcomes," he assured.

To illustrate the government's vision for the future, Dr. Adutwum showcased plans for new classrooms across the country. These modern facilities will feature fully equipped science and ICT laboratories, aiming to create an optimal learning environment for both teachers and students.

Mrs. Theodosia Jackson, Principal of JUC, echoed the Minister's sentiments, stating that the college was founded to provide hope and brighter futures for marginalized individuals. Since its inception in 2009, JUC has focused on the holistic development of students—socially, emotionally, and cognitively—while utilizing technology to enrich the learning experience.

Additionally, she announced a partnership with NIIT India to enhance students' ICT skills, training them in essential software like Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. "These tools are critical in today’s digital landscape," she noted, highlighting their importance in preparing students for the modern workforce.
