The Ashanti Sub-transmission team of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has completed extensive maintenance work on a substation at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The maintenance activities were conducted near Unity Hall and included the replacement of critical components such as batteries and rectifiers. These upgrades are aimed at improving the substation’s protection, control, and indication systems, thereby enhancing its overall operational efficiency.
Ing. Peter Fletcher, the General Manager of Ashanti Sub-transmission, expressed optimism about future collaborations with KNUST. He highlighted the university's pivotal role in training a substantial portion of ECG's workforce, with approximately 85% of its engineers and non-engineers having received education from KNUST. Fletcher assured university officials that this maintenance effort is just the beginning of ECG’s commitment to supporting the institution.

In addition to the work on the substation, teams from Ashanti East and South Line Maintenance took advantage of the downtime to reinforce the network connected to the substation. They conducted repairs and strengthened all jumpers on the line, further ensuring reliability in electricity distribution.
This proactive approach by ECG not only reflects its corporate responsibility but also underscores its dedication to fostering a strong partnership with KNUST, which is integral to Ghana's engineering education landscape.
