In response to ongoing disputes, the Ministry of the Interior has placed Sampa Township in the Jaman North District under a nightly curfew. Effective October 24, 2024, residents are required to stay indoors from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am until further notice.
This curfew, issued under an Executive Instrument, reflects the government’s commitment to stabilizing the area amid ongoing tensions, particularly in light of recent chieftaincy disputes.
The directive made public in a statement from the Interior Ministry, followed consultations with the Bono Regional Security Council.
Interior Minister Henry Quartey emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in the region, urging local chiefs, community leaders, and residents to approach their grievances through peaceful channels and refrain from any actions that could escalate the situation.
In addition to the curfew, a complete ban on carrying weapons, including firearms and any offensive items, has been implemented in Sampa. Law enforcement will act strictly against anyone found with arms, with potential legal consequences for those who do not comply.
Government officials have called on the youth and leaders to act responsibly and continue working toward community safety, aiming to foster stability and unity within Sampa during this challenging period
